Introduction to Electrical Engineering

This course serves as a general introduction to electrical engineering programmes offered by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). In this course, students will be exposed to attributes of an electrical engineer from both academic and practical points of view. Some skills and knowledge that are necessary in the engineering world will be introduced here. Students will obtain a clearer overview of the benefits, excitements and challenges of being an electrical engineering student and a professional electrical engineer in the near future.  

WEEKLY SCHEDULE:

Week 1

         i.            Overview on electrical engineering

        ii.            Descriptions of an electrical engineer

      iii.            EAC, IEM and Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM)

      iv.            Electrical engineering programmes offered by FKE

 

Week 2

:

         i.            What is Outcome Based Education (OBE)?

        ii.            Attributes of a UTM graduate

 

Week 3

:

         i.            University teaching and learning culture

        ii.            Diversity of teaching and learning techniques

 

Week 4-5

:

Laboratory and research center visits

Group assignment 1

Week 6

:

How to write a good technical report

 

Week 7

:

Library visit

Week 8

:

Industrial talk

Mid-semester break
